Jet Ski Tour News: IJSBA National Tour Rounds 3 & 4 Wrap-Up (98 Reads)
Posted by GaryBurtka on Thursday, July 15, 2010 - 10:03 PM

While I know this article is quite latent to speak of the Racine event, having won I really didn't have much to say. It was great to win in the Chicago / Wisconsin area where I have spent the last 8 + years and it was especially sweet it being a televised National event. The win pushed me up into 2nd overall in points on tour, but it is still very open with Parr, Leftly & Brock all riding very strong every event.

Aside from my usual Pro Freestyle appearance, I entered Open 650 Ski (one of my local favorites) & Pro-Am Ski Stock on a Sponsored Kawasaki 800. While I had a great ride on Saturday and a pretty good ride on Sunday for the 1 + 1 combined pro freestyle win, my racing was not on course. I did however capture some great helmet cam footage in all of my races.

Top 5 Pro Freestyle Racine
1: Gary Burtka
2: Joe Eckert
3: Jeremy Parr
4: Greg Brock
5: Johnny Leftly

Twangled The Racine Journal Times has a great article about this past weekend's IJSBA National Tour Race. Special Thanks to: Staff Photographer Gregory Shaver and Reporter David Steinkraus of The Journal Times.

RACINE — The chiropractors had business at North Beach on Saturday and Sunday. It’s not that watercross racing is a dangerous sport, but it does take a certain toll on the human body... Full Story from the Journal Times

Jet Ski Tour News: IJSBA National Jet Ski Tour – Round 2 - Syracuse, New York Wrap-Up (124 Reads)
Posted by GaryBurtka on Friday, June 04, 2010 - 06:09 AM

Twangled Another 2010 tour event is over and in the books. For me, the event ended just as it had started... With a blow-out on the trailer. Between flat tires, I was able to pick up Brock and make it all the way from Chicago to Syracuse for round #2 of the IJSBA National tour. Tour promoter AJ Handler once again went out of his way to show the world how to put on an event that caters to both premier watercraft racers and fans. From clean and ultra executive style porto-lets, to a killer riders party at the local Quaker state Steak & Lube.

The water was flat and the race course tight. With a camera crew on hand from the Outdoor Life Network, the riders hit the beach early Saturday morning running their first of 3 motos.

Twangled Team Twangled is back from Round 1 of the National tour and preparing for a grueling drive to New York for round 2 over Memorial Day weekend in Syracuse.

Panama City was a complete success in terms of overall events, as mostly friendly weather and plush beaches were a fantastic backdrop for Round 1 of the IJSBA National Tour. Freestyle was run on both days, and single day finishes were combined for overall event finishes.

Jet Ski Tour News: 2010 HYDRO-TURF APBA WATERCROSS NATIONAL Jet Ski TOUR Details (456 Reads)
Posted by GaryBurtka on Thursday, March 18, 2010 - 01:39 PM

Twangled Well it looks like the APBA National Tour is all scheduled and ready for kickoff. It looks like Patrick Mell has once again put together a great tour with many exciting sites. It is too bad that the APBA still fails to offer freestyle as part of their National Tour effort (we only get to compete in Nashville for a 1 run National Championship???) as many of these events look like they may have attendance. In any regards if you are a racer or a fan the following article will provide pleanty of color for some of the exciting racing that is about to heat up the North American waterways.

EASTPOINTE, MI - The HYDRO-TURF APBA Watercross National Tour returns with a revived spirit
and fresh new look to North America’s premier traveling national circuit. The 2010 National Tour will
consist of a six-event, eleven round series of professionally organized events spread throughout the
United States and Canada. The goal for the 2010 race season was to find six first class, quality race
sites with nice beaches, clean water, affordable and convenient lodging and camping, extra activities
and attractions, and great cash awards for the racers. Many of the events are run in conjunction with
great festivals and all are expected to draw huge crowds. These are great race sites and events that
the racers, their teams and families will enjoy attending. With two new fantastic sites added for 2010
we are certain that this year’s events are the best race site ever. New Tour stops this year include
Colonial Beach, Virginia and Belle River, Canada. Both of these new events will have special cash
purses with the Canada race having a purse that will exceed $30,000 – making it the largest cash
purse in National Tour history.
From some of the hottest beaches and waterways in the United States and Canada, the APBA
National Tour is guaranteed to provide some of the most exciting and competitive Watercross racing
action to be seen anywhere in the country. Each action packed event features North America’s top
watercraft racers doing battle against one another, while negotiating buoys, obstacles and pounding
waves while en route to prestigious APBA National Tour Championship titles in eleven Pro-Am and
Expert racing classes including Women’s classes. Each racer will be vying for a portion of more than
$125,000 in cash, prizes and awards that will be up for grabs, while en-route to the prestigious APBA
National Tour championship titles and awards. Each round of the National Tour will be filmed and
two half-hour shows will be produced from each event and air on several different national cable and
satellite television networks for airing in the United States and Canada.
The 2010 APBA Watercross National Tour kicks off in Parker, Arizona, on May 1-2 and makes its
final stop in Nashville, Tennessee, on September 3-5. Check out the 2010 schedule and this year's
Super Sites.

Jet Ski Tour News: 2010 APBA National Tour Schedule Update (459 Reads)
Posted by GaryBurtka on Sunday, January 24, 2010 - 08:32 PM

The Big Story Eastpointe, MI - The APBA is excited to announce the newest Tour stop on the 2010 APBA
Watercross National Tour – Belle River, Canada. It has been more than 10 years that a
National event has been held in Canada and the APBA is excited to see racing return to Eastern
Canada. The event will take place on July 17-18, 2010 at Lakeview Park in Belle River Canada.
Belle River is just across the border from Detroit, Michigan not far from Windsor Canada. The
event will be held the week after the Harbor Beach, Michigan national event that will make it
easy for racers to attend and save on travel expenses.
The Belle River
event will be a
great race with a
HUGE cash purse
that is expected to
be the largest
cash purse
offered in many
years. Belle River
is an historic town
in beautiful Lakeshore bordering Lake St. Clair. With an
abundance of sights to see, things to do, and places to shop,
Belle River is an ideal location to host an event. Minutes away are great marine and golf
resorts, inviting beaches, camping, museums, conservation areas, and historic buildings.
Lakeview Park is a first class facility with a pristine white sandy beach and many great
amenities. The city recently received a 3 million grant to upgrade Lakeview Park, so you can
expect many new features to the already beautiful facility.
The event will take place within the boundaries of Lakeview
Park on Lake St. Clair and run in conjunction with the 16th
Annual SunSplash Festival. In addition to professional
watercross racing the annual festival features a classic Car
Cruise with over 500 classic cars that will line the eleven
blocks of downtown. Just a sampling of the other events
includes: a carnival with rides, parade, vendor booths, arts and crafts, refreshment tent with free
fun and continuous entertainment including live bands that start Friday night and will dazzle you
right through Sunday.
The 2010 APBA Watercross National Tour will also have stops in Parker, Arizona - Myrtle
Beach, South Carolina; Harbor Beach, Michigan; Colonial Beach, Virginia; and finish off the
season with the APBA Watercross Nationals in Nashville, Tennessee. The APBA is searching
for one more West Coast stop to complete the 2010 schedule. The APBA has worked hard,
together with its race promoters, to find some of the best race sites in the country with nice
beaches, clean water and fun locations. The 2010 National Tour will have over $90,000 in cash
and prizes up from grabs in 2010.

Jet Ski Tour News: IJSBA Freestyle Rcommendations (308 Reads)
Posted by GaryBurtka on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 - 09:48 AM

The Big Story After visiting the IJSBA site and reading the recommendations for freestyle I have to wonder if and when someone besides all of the freestylers is going to 'get it.' If you read the following exerpt from the IJSBA, you will notice that even though Rick Roy attempted to make his point (which is the point of many freestylers), his efforts went unnoticed. The IJSBA noted: "hull technology has changed rapidly and the relationship between Freestyle and use of an OEM PWC has diminished rapidly"... Really? Is that because the OEMs have chosen to completely ignore the freestyle market, not creating a freestyle friendly ski in years. Kawasaki hasn't made a freestyle usable ski since 1994 and Yamaha just dropped their freestyle friendly Super Jet design in efforts to go after the stand-up racing segment again. Can't an OEM design more than 1 stand-up? And what is with all of the replication terminology? The IJSBA should take note in the increase of jet ski (freestyle) related shops that create and sell those new aftermarket hulls. Screw the OEMs. Let's build the sport on the backs of shop owners like grass roots sports are supposed to be.

From IJSBA -

Freestyle

For years, the Freestyle classes stayed remarkably constant. The most notable names in Freestyle pushed competition and tricks to heights that were so noteworthy that clips and segments of these performances started making global news. Remarkably, these pioneers shared their skill and helped develop hulls and other products which allowed the general public to perform the same tricks. What followed is an entire generation of Freestyle Competitors who are all capable of the same dazzling tricks that once guaranteed only a small subset of athletes could make the podium. In doing so, the hull technology has changed rapidly and the relationship between Freestyle and use of an OEM PWC has diminished rapidly. What is most notable about this is that the proliferation of the more exotic hulls and engine combinations has actually increased Freestyle participation (likely because the hulls help with the tricks).

same.
