APBA New Programs for 2009 Jet Ski Racing Season

During the APBA annual meeting, the APBA decided to launch a couple of new programs to help encourage growth throughout 2009. A Regional Representative and New Racer Mentor Program have both been launched for 2009. If any of you freestylers out there have any questions, que them up and send them over. We are always happy to help guide you through what you need to freestyle your weekend away. Read the full story for all of the program details.

REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVES
At the recent APBA Annual Meeting it was discussed and agreed that developing a Regional Representative
program would be great way to better promoter our sport and provide feedback to APBA National
Headquarters. One APBA Regional Representative will be selected to represent each U.S. racing region. In
some of the larger regions two Regional Representatives may be appointed. Below we describe some of the
basic roles of the Regional Representative. We are looking positive, energetic, and enthusiast individuals that
share the passion to help make out sport a better one.
The roles of the Regional Representatives will be several things. Here are a few examples:
1) Assist in the development and implementation of a New Racer Mentor program to assist new racers
that attend events.
2) Assist in helping to better market the sport in the region including the distribution of supplied posters
and flyers to local watercraft dealers by themselves and through other racers in the region.
3) Provide feedback to the APBA as to how to make races safer and more organized.
4) The Region Representative may appoint regional assistants to assist in improving the sport in their
region.
5) The APBA Regional Rep should be willing to make public his e-mail and phone to racers in his/her
region.
6) The Regional Representative should be a racer that attends the majority of the races in a region.
If you are interested in becoming an APBA Regional Representative please answer the following questions
and e-mail them to [email protected]. We are hopeful that by January 31 we will be able to announce the
Regional Representatives and have one in each APBA region.
Questions: Why you want to be a Regional Representative, experience racing watercraft, years in the sport,
the number of events you attended in 2008 and plan on attending in 2009, and what region are you from.

NEW RACER MENTOR PROGRAM
A racers first experience at a race can sometimes be a little scary. The new racer may not have any holders,
an ATV or a tote to get his/her boat to the water, have any support crew, and has no idea what to expect when
he/she shows up. At the recent APBA Annual Meeting the development and implementation of a New Racer
Mentor Program was brought up and was well receive by all those in attendance. This is a great program that
could help bring new racers into our sport. We hope that racers in each of the APBA regions will support this
program and help mentor a new racer.
? The Regional Representative will be responsible for either being the new racer mentor or finding
another rider in the region to mentor the racer.
? We would like the Regional Representative to make available his/her phone number and/or email so
that the new racer can ask questions before the event.
? The Regional Representative, or someone that he/she appoints, would greet the new racer at the event
and help make sure that the racers first race experience is great one. The mentor would help the racer
find holders if needed, get his/her boat to the water, and explain how everything works at a race.
